LuLu*s

{No picture today :)}

I wanted to take a break from my Fashion Week research (My favorites so far? Christian Siriano, Peter Som and Sachin + Babi) to bring you a little special for my readers. (That’s you. 🙂 )

Starting today until October 10th, you can get 15% off (Yup – not 10%… 15%! 🙂 ) your order from LuLu*s when you enter the code SPILLEDPAINT at the checkout. The code can only be used once and it IS case sensitive – so make sure you use all capital letters. Also, it’s only available to the U.S. and Canada.

I have ordered from the site before and they’re a great company. Just another little note: if there’s a good response, I might be able to bring some other opportunities to you from LuLu*s. So get to ordering! Need a little outfit inspiration? All of these were made with items from LuLu*s only.

It Overtakes Me {05 Sep 10}

*First, I redid my “What’s This?” page, so you should go look at that and let me know your thoughts on how things are going so far. :)*

And now, on with the tour. 🙂

*Edit* I had to add this because next week, it will be too late and everyone will be talking about it.

I so wish I could have gone to Evolving Influence. It’s always right before fashion week and it sounds amazing. I always like conferences like that. They’re like a week of just listening to inspiring people talk. I used to go to Discovery Toys conventions with my mom when she used to sell them and we always had so much fun listening to these people talk. It’s like being at a concert. It’s completely different to experience it live. The energy in the room is always fantastic. Anyway, this is the same thing, but for fashion bloggers. The problem is it’s in New York … and I’m still in school. *Sigh* maybe next time. 😦

*end edit*

Who doesn’t love Tarina Tarantino? (Jewelry eye candy)

Things like this make me smile – what kids think of love.

This house, this photo shoot and this house over at Lace & Tea are all amazing.

Bakerella got to go to the Emmys! Love this!

Speaking of Bakerella, she just wrote a book that is definitely going on my wish list! Go look at the video she did for Amazon. She teaches you how to make cake pops! 🙂

Want to see some amazing hats? I thought you might. … this image is my favorite out of the bunch. Amazing.

Umm, I mean … in *love* with this blog. Amazing photos 🙂

I ❤ Anthropologie.

Kidrobot – kind of love this store! Love the “Art Toys” section. It makes me happy. 🙂 You can also find unique (and totally adorable) useful stuff in the “Lifestyle” section.

I would like this cigarette case. I’m aware that I don’t smoke and have no desire to smoke, but I do have cards and money that need a safe place to hide in my purse. This would hold them very nicely 🙂 Plus, it has 2 sides. The one I have now only has 1.

I’d love to take photos like this. All from inside waves. So freakin beautiful. My favorite?

Sincerely, John Hughes is sad, but really sweet.

Found this gem of a post from a few months ago. Makes me want to travel to all these places. 🙂

Oh my goodness! I was looking through the entries on Polyvore for Gala’s contest and this girl is amazing. She’s a graphic design student, and it really shows in her sets. They’re so cute. The way she uses each piece is really inspiring. Especially when you realize how difficult it is to work with the background on Polyvore sets. Love it. 🙂

Another Polyvore member I found! Amazing. 🙂 I love when people are so creative with their Polyvore sets!

I wanna go to this party. 🙂

How fabulous does Rachel look in that scene in Episode 4 of this season where she’s got this swarm of people around her fixing her for the Marc Jacobs show? I mean, amazing.

Also amazing? The last episode of Rachel Zoe (Season 3 Episode 5 at the bottom. You have to pick it). Shopping at vintage stores looking for inspiration? Love it. Also love the family business at Missoni. ❤

I never even knew MTV had a show like this. And at the David Barton Gym … those gyms are gorgeous! *Click* *Click* *Click* I love competition shows … and these are like mini one-episode competition shows about doing something we’ve all done – going on a job interview.

Now that I’ve got you looking at bones and things like that, let’s let TMZ creep you out a little more.

I've been a huge Pretty Reckless fan since
their first concert leaked a couple years ago.
(Yup ... It's Taylor Momsen from Gossip Girl's band)
They're pretty good. Totally my music style. I love my badass chick rockers.

The end = NSFW, but still an amazing show. I don't even have to explain.

Also, Thought I would leave you with the soundtrack to these Sunday posts. 🙂

It Overtakes Me {15 Aug 10}

New here? (Welcome!)

I’ve been on Gala Darling a lot this week, so a lot of these are from her past posts. They’re worth sharing again, though. 🙂

Who You Gonna Call? ~ Brilliant. You have to watch it. I am in total support of this! Here’s what Gala said when she posted the video (not sure where she got this from): “The New York Public Library invited Improv Everywhere to perform at the library as a means of cheering people up in the face of budget cuts. IE agreed and decided to perform as the Ghostbusters.”

The Power of Color over at The Cool Hunter is amazing. There should definitely be more color in this world. (Actually, the whole site is amazing and you should go explore it now. 🙂 )

While we’re on the subject of color, Color Survey Results are pretty freaking funny. Honestly, I just looked at the charts because I didn’t have time to read the whole thing, but I still loved it.

Lights On, Lights Off… Chanel Lightbulb Shoes at the Beckerman Bite Plate ~ You’re kidding me with these shoes, right!?!? Crazy.

7 Incredible Natural Phenomena ~ Super interesting. Goats in trees? Black Sun? Craziness.

The Real Life Lichtenstein-Cosmic-Girl ~ At first I thought it was tattooed. But no, it’s just makeup. (This site is amazing, too. Look around!)

The “Flowers from the 90’s” dress at The Novel Hut. ~ I love how she says in the first line “Saved by the Bell is calling and you better answer!” As soon as you see this dress, you’ll know why! I swear I saw it on an episode of Saved by the Bell. Plus, you have to read the rest of the description. I hardly ever do, but this one was pretty descriptive. It’s worth reading all the way through.

50’s Style t-shirt dress by Double Zero at The Novel Hut ~ I just think this is adorable. A black 50’s style t-shirt dress … it’s something you can just throw on and go! So adorable. Too bad I’m not a Small.

peace love sarcasm ~ You gotta go to this blog! Or at least add her on Twitter. She’s freakin’ hilarious.

Gala Darling’s Shelf ~ Love it! It’s super Gala 🙂

F*ck Yeah Paris ~ Love. Love love love. I’m thinking studying abroad in Paris is a wonderful idea. But I can’t afford it right now. Maybe I’ll start a fundraiser! I’ll call it “Help Melissa Go To Paris” … Sounds like a fabulous idea.

Craziness!

How to look at fashion

It’s difficult to get most people to understand fashion. When you see an outfit, the first thing you think are simple thoughts that are often a bit selfish.

  • “How would that look on me?”
  • “That’s not my style.”
  • “Eww – that would make me look pregnant!”
  • “It looks pretty, but I could never pull it off.”

This is not the way high fashion should be viewed. Fashion really is an art form and should be looked at as such. Fashion shows are the art exhibits of fashion. Designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, John Galliano and Marc Jacobs put on the most incredible shows. They really transport you to another world – a world where the clothes can survive. That’s what fashion is all about.

Can you imagine going to an Alexander McQueen (R.I.P.) fashion show? (Video NSFW)

How breathtaking would that be? There is no other way to see it other than as an art form.

Take a look at this collection from John Galliano for Christian Dior. Can you imagine being at this show?

What about this Chanel show? Look at that location! It is perfect for the clothes. Karl Lagerfeld does such an amazing job.

Watch what Marc Jacobs did for Louis Vuitton. It reminds me of old movies like Gigi and Funny Face. What a beautiful presentation!

And now for a break from current fashion. Let’s look at the ’60s. 🙂
