It Overtakes Me {31 July 2011}

*Edit: The links should work now.*

Of course, you didn’t think I’d come back to my blog without this column, did you? I didn’t think so.

The beautiful photo above was taken by Eliza Claire. She does amazing work.

An Angry Birds birthday party? Oh, yeah!

Since I am going to school for retail management, I have a business plan in the works that will be complete for my capstone project. This post on A Beautiful Mess makes me even more excited to keep working on it! Great job, Elsie!

I’m a little obsessed with books. Not necessarily reading them, but I love the look of piles of books all over the place. Combining that with fashion is just amazing to me. Therefore, these photos from Janetteria are breathtaking.

I know it’s half a year away, but I’m excited to decorate for Christmas this year. Fancy House Road has some posts about Christmas color trends – like silver and green – and even DIY ideas – like these ornaments – for this coming year. Are you ready?

WWD posted an article about some of the best finds at their Paris Trade Show. My favorites? The headpieces and jewelry at Coralie de Seynes and the fine jewelry at Sigomonta.

Fashionista posted a list of some of Tim Gunn’s best sayings. There are some great ones in here!

Also on Fashionista this week, they announced the (reported) cast list for the Sex and the City prequel. I don’t know – I would love to see Blake as Carrie instead of Samantha. What do you think?

I’m not much of drinker. I can drink socially, but I don’t love the taste of alcohol. I do, however, LOVE jello shots. So good! Here are some pretty ones.

As a lover of old movies – and a sucker for celebrity gossip – I found this article on the affairs of Clark Gable extremely interesting.

Do you remember the Nickelodean shows from the 90’s? They’re back on TeenNick. Clarissa Explains it All is already on my DVR! What do you want to see come back?

I’m not the most organized person in the world. The last couple of years, I’ve actually gotten a lot better. My boyfriend, believe it or not, is the one who helped me a lot with that. Don’t tell him I said that, though. I don’t want him to get a big head. 😉 Anyway, if you need help in that department, here are some organizing tips from Stacks And Stacks.

I can't tell you how much I love this video. It is definitely the phase of creativity I am in right now.
This is another creativity video. Love this one, as well.

It Overtakes Me {24 Oct 2010}

My pumpkin carving ... how does it look? It's the first one I've done all by myself. :)

It makes me so upset when I see websites like this. 😦

One of my friends from high school, Deana, just had a fashion show! She just posted it on her website (Click “EVENING WEAR”). It’s really really good. She’s from Egypt, and we lived in Saudi Arabia together. Knowing that about her, the whole collection really speaks to who she is. I really love it. (P.S. Her sister is her model. Gotta love how close her family is. 🙂 )

Cleaner Science is a soap designer from Houston. … Interesting. Really interesting. … Christmas presents? …

For my business plan for Business Ownership, I’m starting a gift shop in Kemah that supports local artists and only sells the best quality products from local designers and artists. In my opinion, we should probably start doing something about supporting the local community by buying things made locally – so starting this Christmas, I’m going to try to do all of my Christmas shopping from local designers and artists. I found most of the people in my pretend shop on Etsy. I just typed my city and state and clicked “Search Location” and got a ton of results. There are some super creative people around Houston. I’m also using some super creative friends and people from school in my project. Anyone have any gifts they’ve made? I wanna see. 🙂 I might even buy one. … If I have someone to give it to.

I ❤ Threadbanger. I think I said this last time, but it’s still true. I mean … YouTube can never go away. You can teach yourself to do anything on there. Loving watching old Decor it Yourself videos, though. Haha 🙂

It Overtakes Me {10 Oct 2010}

My curious cat, Tiffany{My cat, Tiffany.}

I know I missed a week. But there’s a reason.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this blog. I’m working on a different approach that is a little more me. It might take some time to develop, but when it does come, it should be worth the wait. I’ll still write these update posts because they’re fun. But you might not hear much else for a while. Don’t worry. I’m still here. I’m on Facebook if you want to talk. 🙂

Anyway, here’s a few things I found this week.

You know I love my videos. It’s just so much easier to learn things when you see someone else do them. {P.S. I took this quiz in class the other day. You should take it. Thank you, Ms. Cordovi for the most informative information about ourselves. I learn so much from her. I’m overwhelmingly a Tactile/Kinesthetic learner. I’d say it’s true.} Threadbanger is the best resource I used for when I got stuck on my project. I just got finished making my new bag for school. I’ve been trying to do a lot more sewing lately. This website has tons of tutorials and sewing projects to do. I didn’t get the bag design from that site, but it helped when I got stuck on something. I love it. 🙂 …

I was having trouble with my thread tension before I realized I was threading my sewing machine wrong. Watch this video (below) if you want to see how it’s done right. She has a few more videos up that help with the basics.

I would love to do this project. But I need someone to help me. Erin? 🙂

This coming week is Houston Fashion Week. I have school and work on Tuesday and Thursday, so I can’t go those days, but I’m going on Thursday. I was going to go Monday, too, but I wasn’t fast enough with my ticket order. Oh well. At least I’m going one day.

I want to make something out of this fabric or this fabric. So cute. Maybe more PJs. 🙂 … This fabric is pretty, too. This is my first super crafty Christmas in a long time. I am getting a head start. Don’t know exactly what I’m going to make yet at all … I think I might take this fabric and pull it across a frame and glue rhinestones to the tips of the flowers and frame it. Then I can put it as a big display piece in my living room. Maybe.

Wow … this week has gone by fast! … I started my new job. I really like the people at work. They all say the customers can be rude, but so far, everyone has been really nice to me. Moody customers are just part of any job. Plus, when you like the people you work with, it makes rude customers that much less bothersome. … I’m scheduled to close almost every single day next week (except Thursday, when I’m hanging out with Erin) … No break for me. 🙂 … ANYWAY, now for the links!

The first day of Fall was September 22nd! 🙂 I posted about it on Facebook and so did Victoria’s Secret. (Psst … read under the picture.) 🙂

I posted my Consumer Behavior project on Facebook. Read the captions to see what it’s all about. 🙂 By the way, this was the first scrapbook I created since like 1999. And that one was also thrown together at the last second … because that’s what happens when you procrastinate. But in all, I’m pretty happy with the result. It was pretty fun to put together, too. 🙂

Since I just got this new job, I’ve been all over my craft shows and things lately. My favorite part of the Hobby Lobby website? Project Inspiration. Remember – anything you see on sites like this is just an idea. Whatever you get from it is what you put into it. It’s the colors you use and the textures you pick. Be creative when recreating any of these projects. I picked up the “…all I want for Christmas is sequins” packet yesterday. Since I’m a little more traditional when it comes to my favorite Christmas colors, I can see doing this project with reds instead of pinks on a more natural green tree. I would absolutely keep the sequins, though, because I like sparkly. I might even add a few rhinestones, too.

You have to see this video! It’s about how to do fashion sketching and it has some great ideas! I love the idea of the jumper dress as apposed to the solid. That just shows that you just need to be creative when designing. … And OH MY GOODNESS … I want one of those wooden mannequin things!!! That’s awesome!

Joey wants to start eating healthy again (he has random moments of healthiness. I love those. 🙂 ), so I’m cooking chicken tonight. I was looking for chicken recipes online for whole chicken (cheaper than breasts). I found a video that I’m not going to actually post up here because some of my readers are animal lovers and it’s kind of gruesome, but if you want to see it, go to this link. It’s a video on how to cut up a whole chicken if you’re trying to be economical, too.

That’s it for this week. 🙂

It Overtakes Me {12 Sep 19}

I’m absolutely aware I’ve been absent lately. That’s what finals do to you.

But here’s my {Super duper short} list of websites this week.

My favorite shirt collar? The Peter Pan collar. Just found out that it had a name. 🙂 Super cute.

My favorite fashion shows from this week? (from what I’ve seen so far…) 🙂 …

* Reem Acra *

This video is not her runway video. It's her Spring 2011 Bridal collection.
She talks about how she thinks about design, though. It's interesting.

*Monique Lhuillier *

* Marchesa *

Beautiful. ... Always a favorite.

* Barbara Tfank *

Told you. Super short.

Tavi … kind of … reviewed the collection McQueen was working on when he died. I have to agree with her.

This post about e-mails is kind of genius. I have a Gmail. Pretty fitting. What’s yours? Is it true?

How panhandlers use free credit cards is an interesting little experiment.

The tiny little phone on Creature Comforts’ Inspiration Daily is so cute!

I would have LOVED to have been at the Beckerman Sample Sale! That green bag = FABULOUS! I want one!!!

Awesome story. I love this. 🙂 I love that plate, too.

I know I’ve been talking about Fall a lot lately, but Five Creative Ways to Survive a New York City Summer can work anywhere – not just New York! And most of them are free.

Back in 1976, Marc Bohan made a fashion prediction that turned out true.

My favorite look at the Emmy’s? Kelly Osbourne. She looked fantastic!

A couple awesome things … Driving over a small hill in your car and Your Almost Name

I’d love to see this movie. The pictures look amazing.

Gala had a super interesting three * part * series on money and fashion bloggers a couple months ago. You should read it. It’s good stuff. My money advice? Only spend money on things you KNOW you’re going to use and love. Also, when shopping, if you see something you like, walk away from it for a little while. If you’re still thinking about it when you’re done shopping, go back to it. If not, you didn’t want it that bad anyway.

Also on Gala? Some good advice from Henry Rollins.

I know I have some friends who have worked at Wendy's.
Do they show this?
Haha ... Cute.

It Overtakes Me {05 Sep 10}

*First, I redid my “What’s This?” page, so you should go look at that and let me know your thoughts on how things are going so far. :)*

And now, on with the tour. 🙂

*Edit* I had to add this because next week, it will be too late and everyone will be talking about it.

I so wish I could have gone to Evolving Influence. It’s always right before fashion week and it sounds amazing. I always like conferences like that. They’re like a week of just listening to inspiring people talk. I used to go to Discovery Toys conventions with my mom when she used to sell them and we always had so much fun listening to these people talk. It’s like being at a concert. It’s completely different to experience it live. The energy in the room is always fantastic. Anyway, this is the same thing, but for fashion bloggers. The problem is it’s in New York … and I’m still in school. *Sigh* maybe next time. 😦

*end edit*

Who doesn’t love Tarina Tarantino? (Jewelry eye candy)

Things like this make me smile – what kids think of love.

This house, this photo shoot and this house over at Lace & Tea are all amazing.

Bakerella got to go to the Emmys! Love this!

Speaking of Bakerella, she just wrote a book that is definitely going on my wish list! Go look at the video she did for Amazon. She teaches you how to make cake pops! 🙂

Want to see some amazing hats? I thought you might. … this image is my favorite out of the bunch. Amazing.

Umm, I mean … in *love* with this blog. Amazing photos 🙂

I ❤ Anthropologie.

Kidrobot – kind of love this store! Love the “Art Toys” section. It makes me happy. 🙂 You can also find unique (and totally adorable) useful stuff in the “Lifestyle” section.

I would like this cigarette case. I’m aware that I don’t smoke and have no desire to smoke, but I do have cards and money that need a safe place to hide in my purse. This would hold them very nicely 🙂 Plus, it has 2 sides. The one I have now only has 1.

I’d love to take photos like this. All from inside waves. So freakin beautiful. My favorite?

Sincerely, John Hughes is sad, but really sweet.

Found this gem of a post from a few months ago. Makes me want to travel to all these places. 🙂

Oh my goodness! I was looking through the entries on Polyvore for Gala’s contest and this girl is amazing. She’s a graphic design student, and it really shows in her sets. They’re so cute. The way she uses each piece is really inspiring. Especially when you realize how difficult it is to work with the background on Polyvore sets. Love it. 🙂

Another Polyvore member I found! Amazing. 🙂 I love when people are so creative with their Polyvore sets!

I wanna go to this party. 🙂

How fabulous does Rachel look in that scene in Episode 4 of this season where she’s got this swarm of people around her fixing her for the Marc Jacobs show? I mean, amazing.

Also amazing? The last episode of Rachel Zoe (Season 3 Episode 5 at the bottom. You have to pick it). Shopping at vintage stores looking for inspiration? Love it. Also love the family business at Missoni. ❤

I never even knew MTV had a show like this. And at the David Barton Gym … those gyms are gorgeous! *Click* *Click* *Click* I love competition shows … and these are like mini one-episode competition shows about doing something we’ve all done – going on a job interview.

Now that I’ve got you looking at bones and things like that, let’s let TMZ creep you out a little more.

I've been a huge Pretty Reckless fan since
their first concert leaked a couple years ago.
(Yup ... It's Taylor Momsen from Gossip Girl's band)
They're pretty good. Totally my music style. I love my badass chick rockers.

The end = NSFW, but still an amazing show. I don't even have to explain.

Also, Thought I would leave you with the soundtrack to these Sunday posts. 🙂
