It Overtakes Me {31 July 2011}

*Edit: The links should work now.*

Of course, you didn’t think I’d come back to my blog without this column, did you? I didn’t think so.

The beautiful photo above was taken by Eliza Claire. She does amazing work.

An Angry Birds birthday party? Oh, yeah!

Since I am going to school for retail management, I have a business plan in the works that will be complete for my capstone project. This post on A Beautiful Mess makes me even more excited to keep working on it! Great job, Elsie!

I’m a little obsessed with books. Not necessarily reading them, but I love the look of piles of books all over the place. Combining that with fashion is just amazing to me. Therefore, these photos from Janetteria are breathtaking.

I know it’s half a year away, but I’m excited to decorate for Christmas this year. Fancy House Road has some posts about Christmas color trends – like silver and green – and even DIY ideas – like these ornaments – for this coming year. Are you ready?

WWD posted an article about some of the best finds at their Paris Trade Show. My favorites? The headpieces and jewelry at Coralie de Seynes and the fine jewelry at Sigomonta.

Fashionista posted a list of some of Tim Gunn’s best sayings. There are some great ones in here!

Also on Fashionista this week, they announced the (reported) cast list for the Sex and the City prequel. I don’t know – I would love to see Blake as Carrie instead of Samantha. What do you think?

I’m not much of drinker. I can drink socially, but I don’t love the taste of alcohol. I do, however, LOVE jello shots. So good! Here are some pretty ones.

As a lover of old movies – and a sucker for celebrity gossip – I found this article on the affairs of Clark Gable extremely interesting.

Do you remember the Nickelodean shows from the 90’s? They’re back on TeenNick. Clarissa Explains it All is already on my DVR! What do you want to see come back?

I’m not the most organized person in the world. The last couple of years, I’ve actually gotten a lot better. My boyfriend, believe it or not, is the one who helped me a lot with that. Don’t tell him I said that, though. I don’t want him to get a big head. 😉 Anyway, if you need help in that department, here are some organizing tips from Stacks And Stacks.

I can't tell you how much I love this video. It is definitely the phase of creativity I am in right now.
This is another creativity video. Love this one, as well.

Nail Polish of the Week

I told you I would be back!

I’ve been through a lot in the last couple of months. I’m going to spare you most of the details, because honestly they are a little boring. I did put on a fashion show, which I mentioned in an earlier post, that came out really great! I also competed in a fashion challenge – that I didn’t win, but it was a great experience. My sister wrote about it on her blog, though.

Anyway, I’m starting this off with a new nail polish of the week. I’ve got to admit that I got the idea from several blogs around the internet, but I added my own glittery little touch to it. I think it came out really pretty. Excuse the short nails – they haven’t been getting much care lately.

My weight loss journey – In pictures

Yesterday, when I walked into my boyfriend’s parents house, the first thing I heard was “Wooowww! Melissa is wearing jeans! I don’t remember the last time I saw you in jeans!”

The second thing I heard was “You look SO skinny! Like, SUPER skinny! Daammmnnn!”

This wasn’t the first time I’ve heard that lately. At school last week, I had several people mention that I look a lot thinner. That’s because in the last 10 months, I have lost about 40 pounds.

Those that know me personally know i can be a little of a self-portrait fanatic. I take a lot of pictures of myself – and during my weight loss journey, that hasn’t changed. It’s been very well documented. It really helped keep me on track, but I didn’t know if I was ever going to actually post any of these pictures.

Here is the first 10 months of my weight loss – through some very low-quality pictures.

Before I started – May 1, 2010

September, 2010 – Life happened

I don’t have any pictures from September because I was a little more focused on other parts of my life. I did take a very important step in feeling better about myself, though – I got a job. It was a sad time for me because I couldn’t dedicate as much time to things I love (such as this blog), but I finally had the financial comfort in my life – something I hadn’t had in a while. The financial stress was taken off and I was actually getting out of the house. These both definitely helped me with my weight loss goals later.

October 3, 2010

November, December, January and February

I don’t have any pictures from any of these months, but this is when most of the biggest changes happened. In January, after losing about 30 pounds by myself, I joined weight watchers to finish my goal. It worked really well – and is still working.

March 6, 2011 – Yesterday

I have about 10-15 pounds left to get to my goal, but I haven’t been that size since middle school. That part makes me nervous. But I’m working on it!

*P.S. … I like to pose with my hand on my hip, huh?

🙂

It Overtakes Me {12 Sep 19}

I’m absolutely aware I’ve been absent lately. That’s what finals do to you.

But here’s my {Super duper short} list of websites this week.

My favorite shirt collar? The Peter Pan collar. Just found out that it had a name. 🙂 Super cute.

My favorite fashion shows from this week? (from what I’ve seen so far…) 🙂 …

* Reem Acra *

This video is not her runway video. It's her Spring 2011 Bridal collection.
She talks about how she thinks about design, though. It's interesting.

*Monique Lhuillier *

* Marchesa *

Beautiful. ... Always a favorite.

* Barbara Tfank *

Told you. Super short.

Are y’all ready for Fashion Week?

(Beautiful.)

Ohhh I’m so excited! Fashion Week starts this week. I don’t know how I’m going to balance looking at all these shows plus finals and everything else I have coming up. You’re all going to have to bear with me through the next month or so. I’m going to have a lot going on. But I’ll try to stay on top of posting to keep you updated.

This is what I do. … I update my friends on what’s going on with fashion week. If you add me or “Like” me on Facebook, or even follow me on Twitter, I’ll make sure you see everything as I do. Blog posts take a little longer to put together. 🙂

It Overtakes Me {05 Sep 10}

*First, I redid my “What’s This?” page, so you should go look at that and let me know your thoughts on how things are going so far. :)*

And now, on with the tour. 🙂

*Edit* I had to add this because next week, it will be too late and everyone will be talking about it.

I so wish I could have gone to Evolving Influence. It’s always right before fashion week and it sounds amazing. I always like conferences like that. They’re like a week of just listening to inspiring people talk. I used to go to Discovery Toys conventions with my mom when she used to sell them and we always had so much fun listening to these people talk. It’s like being at a concert. It’s completely different to experience it live. The energy in the room is always fantastic. Anyway, this is the same thing, but for fashion bloggers. The problem is it’s in New York … and I’m still in school. *Sigh* maybe next time. 😦

Who doesn’t love Tarina Tarantino? (Jewelry eye candy)

Things like this make me smile – what kids think of love.

This house, this photo shoot and this house over at Lace & Tea are all amazing.

Bakerella got to go to the Emmys! Love this!

Speaking of Bakerella, she just wrote a book that is definitely going on my wish list! Go look at the video she did for Amazon. She teaches you how to make cake pops! 🙂

Want to see some amazing hats? I thought you might. … this image is my favorite out of the bunch. Amazing.

Umm, I mean … in *love* with this blog. Amazing photos 🙂

I ❤ Anthropologie.

Kidrobot – kind of love this store! Love the “Art Toys” section. It makes me happy. 🙂 You can also find unique (and totally adorable) useful stuff in the “Lifestyle” section.

I would like this cigarette case. I’m aware that I don’t smoke and have no desire to smoke, but I do have cards and money that need a safe place to hide in my purse. This would hold them very nicely 🙂 Plus, it has 2 sides. The one I have now only has 1.

I’d love to take photos like this. All from inside waves. So freakin beautiful. My favorite?

Sincerely, John Hughes is sad, but really sweet.

Found this gem of a post from a few months ago. Makes me want to travel to all these places. 🙂

Oh my goodness! I was looking through the entries on Polyvore for Gala’s contest and this girl is amazing. She’s a graphic design student, and it really shows in her sets. They’re so cute. The way she uses each piece is really inspiring. Especially when you realize how difficult it is to work with the background on Polyvore sets. Love it. 🙂

Another Polyvore member I found! Amazing. 🙂 I love when people are so creative with their Polyvore sets!

I wanna go to this party. 🙂

How fabulous does Rachel look in that scene in Episode 4 of this season where she’s got this swarm of people around her fixing her for the Marc Jacobs show? I mean, amazing.

Also amazing? The last episode of Rachel Zoe (Season 3 Episode 5 at the bottom. You have to pick it). Shopping at vintage stores looking for inspiration? Love it. Also love the family business at Missoni. ❤

I never even knew MTV had a show like this. And at the David Barton Gym … those gyms are gorgeous! *Click* *Click* *Click* I love competition shows … and these are like mini one-episode competition shows about doing something we’ve all done – going on a job interview.

Now that I’ve got you looking at bones and things like that, let’s let TMZ creep you out a little more.

I've been a huge Pretty Reckless fan since
their first concert leaked a couple years ago.
(Yup ... It's Taylor Momsen from Gossip Girl's band)
They're pretty good. Totally my music style. I love my badass chick rockers.

The end = NSFW, but still an amazing show. I don't even have to explain.

Also, Thought I would leave you with the soundtrack to these Sunday posts. 🙂

If I could style Gala…

I entered Gala’s birthday outfit contest the other day. I don’t know why I didn’t write this post earlier, but here it is 🙂

Val’s Spike Cuff Bracelet – Gold

I started with the pink glitter. In her post, she said she would have glitter on her eyes and I chose pink because she’s all about pink 🙂

Next I went to Modcloth and picked this dress. I really loved the skirt on it and I’ve never seen her do a super asymmetrical look like that.

Since that arm was completely covered, I decided to do some big bracelets on the other arm to balance it out. They’re kind of random, but I did want pretty big cuffs in pink, black and gold. These were the ones I ended up with, but she can totally change it up. Plus, I threw in a radical self love heart.

One if my favorite Gala finds is this huge heart pendant on a simple chain. I wanted this same effect, so I went looking for pendant necklaces. This was the result. The picture looked like something you’d find on her blog and it went with my green, pink and gold color scheme.

The big bow headband was a different spin on her famous love of ears. A pink one might look good with this, too. I figured it was her birthday and so she needed a bow on top of her big hair that she mentioned she’s going to have..

The flower ring was just to add a little more interest. I kind of love it because it’s so out there. It gives interest to the outfit so it’s not all boring and only 3 colors. Also, it brings her tattoo colors into the outfit. 🙂

The shoes are so cute. I love the corseted detail in the back. So pretty. That detailing up the back of the shoe is pretty hot right now. It kind of reminds me of the line down the back of your leg in pantyhose. It just adds a sleek sexiness. Also, they’re black so she can wear them with anything!

The crown on the front of the dress was just a finishing touch item. It’s a broach and I’m pretty sure it’s smaller than how it looks on my set, but I wanted to show what it was. It adds interest to the belt that was already on the dress.

So, that’s my entry. Let me know what you think of it. I’d love to hear your opinions.
